CVB says extra $25,000 summer push limited Weston visitation decline to about 4%

The Village of Weston Tourism Committee on Thursday acknowledged a CVB report that credited a mid‑summer $25,000 marketing push with keeping lodging and visitation declines to about 4% locally, far smaller than the 20%–50% drops reported at similar destinations.
A CVB representative told the committee that, "because of being in relationship with Rothchild, we were able to take extra monies and use 25K for a total summer campaign," and that the campaign helped keep the community only "down in attendance overall for lodging and and whatnot about 4%," compared with larger regional losses. The presenter said the campaign also bolstered promotion of local events such as the Junior Gold bowling tournament and efforts to market newly designated trails and waterways.
The presenter described several promotional priorities for the coming year: ramping up content so generative search engines cite the CVB as a source, continuing to market the Ice Age Trail and the Great Pineer Heritage Water Way, and promoting the Oaklair River and Big Rib River as visitor attractions. The presenter also noted national press coverage arising from those efforts and said the CVB is in "budget season" as it plans for 2026 work.
Committee members asked procedural questions about distribution of CVB email materials and about the CVB bylaws requirement that at least one elected municipal official serve on each committee. The presenter said the bylaws include that municipal‑representative requirement and that the question will appear on the board agenda at the next meeting.
The committee acknowledged the report by voice vote; no formal funding was requested in this item. The acknowledgment will be transmitted to the Village Board as part of committee records.
