The Lake Forest Park Tree Board agreed to form a small outreach working group (Victoria, Mark, Minda and Kyle) to produce digestible materials and short videos for upcoming events, with the immediate aim of supporting the Green Fair and an Arbor Day tree walk.
Members confirmed a Green Fair table (April 4, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.) and penciled volunteer shifts (morning and afternoon). The working group plan is to prepare one-page handouts, short (1–2 minute) educational videos hosted via the city YouTube channel, and QR codes for tabling so visitors can access video resources on their phones.
A filmmaker volunteer and district partners (Stewardship Foundation, Secret Gardens, Climate Hub, Rotary) were discussed as potential collaborators; Stewardship Foundation indicated interest in partnering and possibly speaking at Arbor Day. The board also discussed logistics for printed flyers, city e-news posts, and a run-of-show for event presentations.
On outreach content, members proposed 'low-hanging fruit' topics such as English ivy removal, mulching basics, and when to call an arborist. The board agreed the outreach subgroup will draft materials and report back at the April 1 meeting so staff can support short-turnaround printing if feasible.
The board also brainstormed future community-engagement activities including a potential tree giveaway in partnership with programs such as '300 Trees' or a donor nursery; members identified legal issues to check with city legal staff regarding gifts of public funds, raffle rules, and placement of donated trees (park vs. private property).
Members closed by listing next meeting agenda items: finalizing Green Fair and Arbor Day plans, outreach working group recommendations, fall tree-planting planning and grant updates.
