Southwest Ranches designates September 2024 Suicide Prevention Month; League of Women Voters offers free gun locks

The council recognized the League of Women Voters of Broward County and the Florida chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for leadership in community education and programming.
A representative of the League of Women Voters told the council she brought free gun locks and informational materials and that volunteers would remain after the meeting to distribute them. “Gun locks are highly effective at preventing suicide and other accidents and deaths,” the representative said. The proclamation and distribution are intended to raise awareness, direct residents to 988 for crisis help, and encourage safe storage of firearms and removal of other lethal means.
Council members thanked the presenters and encouraged residents to take available safety materials.
