Knox County commissioners approve contracts, grants and multiple roadwork authorizations

At their Feb. 24 meeting, the Knox County Commissioners approved a batch of routine and project-specific actions by voice vote.
The board authorized two advertisements for public hearings on proposed salt-brine applications for United Aggregates (Parrot Street and Millersburg Road, Danville). Commissioners then approved a contract with Modern Builders for the Knox County Transit and Business Center facility project; staff were authorized to finalize documents and Jason Booth, county administrator, was authorized to sign project documents.
The commissioners approved a Community Development Block Grant pass-through for program year 2025 to support critical infrastructure improvements to the Danville water facility in the amount of $300,000 from the Ohio Department of Development. The board also approved letters of support for Knox Community Hospital’s federal funding requests for PET and CT mobile units addressed to Sen. Mareno, Congressman Balderson and Sen. Houston.
Operational approvals included document-management and copier lease agreements for county offices, the purchase of a 2016 used asphalt paver for $131,170 for the county engineer, a payment application and final change order for the Pleasant Valley Road bridge replacement project, and numerous force-account authorizations that allow the county engineer to use time-and-materials (force-account) work to replace culverts and concrete box structures across several townships. Staff said the culvert and box work is pursuant to applicable Ohio code and will be funded from engineer project funds.
In procurement, staff opened box-culvert bids in mid-morning: Mac Industries submitted $182,412 and USA Pre-Cast Concrete submitted $159,156; staff said they will tabulate bids and return with a recommendation for award.
