The Commission on Ethics voted to adopt the advocate's motion to dismiss complaint 23-002 against Lorie Cunningham. Miss Hadley, presenting the motion, said Cunningham served on the Polk County School Board and owned Applied Images Incorporated, which sold mandatory school uniforms to charter schools in the district. Staff reviewed documents, interviewed witnesses and considered charter-school statutory changes and concluded the relationship did not constitute a continuing conflict under section 112.313(7)(a), so dismissal was appropriate.
Staff noted that charter schools have independent boards and that the school district's supervisory authority is limited; based on statutes and interviews the advocate recommended dismissal. The respondent and counsel were not present. After no discussion, the commission adopted the dismissal by roll call and an order will be entered.
