The Rialto Unified School District board on Nov. 12 approved a package of consent and action items that included contracts and pilot programs intended to support instructional services and student supports.
Key approvals included: - An agreement with One Step Beyond to provide executive leadership coaching services through June 30, 2026, at a cost not to exceed $35,000 (item E3.3). The item passed with one abstention recorded during roll call. - A no‑cost education affiliation with Western Governors University to host nursing clinicals (E3.15). - Program awards for student enrichment (RFP 2425014) and agreements with Soundbox Group LLC and DASA Care Music & Arts in an estimated aggregate amount of $330,400 to expand after‑school enrichment services (F3). - A pilot agreement with the University of Southern California for a Mathematics Instruction Authorization program for up to 25 teachers at a cost not to exceed $177,500 (F6). District staff said the pilot could directly affect thousands of K–8 students over time and that Rialto was selected to pilot the program. - A subscription renewal with Pearson Clinical Assessment (two‑year digital license) at a cost not to exceed $100,000 to support special‑education eligibility assessments (F5). - Site licenses for an Imagine Learning pilot at three elementary schools at a not‑to‑exceed cost of roughly $54,776 (F8), and SIPs literacy kits for all elementary campuses at a cost not to exceed $86,800 (F7).
Board members and staff discussed several implementation details. Vice President Mr. Martinez asked staff to verify chaperone ratios and fingerprinting protocols after the board approved an overnight trip for up to 60 students to Emerald Cove Outdoor Science Institute for a cost not to exceed $15,618 (E2.3). District staff responded that camp staff supplement the district chaperones at the site and that vendor vetting and fingerprinting are part of the contract; trustees asked staff to confirm documentation on file.
Union and staff leaders addressed compensation and staffing in separate remarks. The Rialto Education Association noted earlier wins on special‑education class sizes and urged the board to consider higher compensation for educators out of district reserves; CSEA and other employee groups asked for continued partnership during contract negotiations.
What happens next: District staff said they will follow up on camp vetting and provide the board with additional data on assessments' effectiveness (a board member requested a report on outcomes tied to the Pearson tools). The USC pilot is a one‑year program intended as a pilot; the district will evaluate teacher uptake and student impact if the pilot proceeds.
