Rialto Unified honors parent group Unidas Corazon with the "Key to the District"

Rialto Unified School District presented the "Key to the District" Dec. 10 to Unidas Corazon María Antonia, a parent organization the board said has strengthened families and helped hundreds of district households.
Vice President Edgar Montes introduced the award, noting the group's work connecting parents to services, workshops and advocacy. Elsie de la Rosa, the organization's founder, told trustees the group formed in 2018 after parents sought help navigating schools and community resources; she described hosting regular meetings, partnering with UCR and Cal State San Bernardino, and supporting families through citizenship workshops, mental-health resources and school advocacy.
Multiple group members spoke in Spanish, thanking the board and recounting the group's activities and the emotional reaction when they learned the board would present the key. The board and superintendent joined Unidos Corazon members and student board member Audrey for photos and certificate presentations at the dais.
Board members praised the organization's long-term volunteer work and noted the recognition aims to encourage continued family engagement and community partnerships.
