Consultants proposed alternatives including replacement of pumps with open-impeller submersibles, parallel smaller-diameter force mains, and various screening or grinder solutions to reduce ragging. One alternative—full screening buildings—could add millions in cost per site, while other approaches (grinders combined with open impeller pumps) might provide a lower-cost solution.
The contract includes an additional $25,231 allowance for studying alternatives described by competing proposers, and staff said Ruker & Milky’s familiarity with the village’s prior facilities plan reduces ramp-up. Trustees discussed project timeline and funding: staff said a 30% final design study and report was expected by May 25, 2026, with 60% plans due July 20 to inform the 2027 budget. The committee unanimously approved the consultant award.
