Committee approves roll‑off truck purchase, urges state reimburse counties for tire disposal

Allegany County's Public Works Committee on March 4 approved several solid‑waste actions: purchase of a Kenworth roll‑off truck, adoption of a resolution asking the state to reimburse counties for waste‑tire program costs, and scheduling a household hazardous waste day for Sept. 12, 2026.
Tom Wind requested permission to purchase one Kenworth T8080 roll‑off with hoist system for solid waste at a purchase price not to exceed $250,000; he said that purchase is in this year's budget. The motion carried.
On tire disposal, Wind presented a proposed resolution urging the New York State Legislature to provide reimbursement to counties for local waste‑tire management and recycling programs under cited Environmental Conservation Law provisions and state finance law. Wind said the county disposed of about 95 tons last year at roughly $140 per ton for a total of $13,357; the resolution passed.
Committee members then moved to refer another listed agenda item to the Solid Waste Board for further discussion, which the committee approved. Finally, the committee approved holding a household hazardous waste collection day on Sept. 12, 2026.
Staff will implement the Kenworth procurement within the current budget, forward the tire reimbursement resolution to appropriate channels, and coordinate the hazardous waste event logistics with county staff and the Solid Waste Board.
