Board staff reported a package of donations to support Salina Elementary School’s green schoolyards and kindergarten natural playscape. The gifts include 100 custard cups, spoons and napkins from the Custard Company for a kindergarten ribbon-cutting; design services valued at $17,850 from Michigan Recreational Construction Inc.; $8,000 for play elements; and multiple tree donations from Relief Michigan, the city (through the DTE Foundation) and Keep It Moving Inc.
Edward C. Levy Company offered a volunteer crew and the use of a water truck to dig holes and water new plantings through October 2025. An $800 donation by Khaled Abdullah and Oed Marwa was designated for PBIS student incentives and awards at Salina Intermediate School.
The board thanked donors and noted the gifts will support shade trees and green infrastructure to reduce heat and emissions on school grounds. Staff said the donations reflect district-community partnerships and will be used in coordination with building plans for the playscape and ribbon-cutting events.
