It’s approximately $5 million just for Dearborn schools,” the superintendent said.
On local operations, the superintendent reported the district completed a summer program that served more than 4,000 students and said staffing reductions this year resulted from attrition; no layoffs are anticipated. He also noted ongoing bond outreach and a planned dedication for Mr. Bun; staff said there will be no vote on the dedication at this meeting and that the building and site committee will report back.
The superintendent told the board that Michigan’s state budget remained unresolved and a resolution on the agenda asks state lawmakers not to divert roughly $1 billion from the School Aid Fund for non-education purposes. The resolution was presented for board consideration but the board did not take final action on that state budget matter during the meeting.
What happens next: the district will continue community outreach on a potential bond in the fall; staff said the communications and building/site committees will follow up on logistics for the dedication.
