The Schererville Town Plan Commission on March 2 approved primary review for a proposed 60x60 maintenance garage on Gallas 6th Addition (general location 350–370 E. US‑30), with conditions requiring that the new structure match the existing building materials, include landscaping planters as shown on the submitted drawings and install six bollards at the overhead doors on the south side.
Petitioner Brian Gallas described the project as a wood‑frame building meant to replace ConX storage boxes on the lot: "I redrrew the plans and I've given you all a copy," he told the commission. He added the structure was "not going to be a metal pole barn" and said he planned to "sight it to match the building in front of it." Commissioners asked about lighting, signage and planter placement; Gallas agreed to keep planter placement off the north and east sides where vehicle access and emergency vehicle circulation must be maintained.
Commission members amended the motion on the floor to specify six bollards at the south doors and to exempt the north and east sides from planter requirements, then approved the motion by roll call, 5–0.
Staff and commissioners noted the need for planters to be consistent with the submitted exhibit and for circulation to remain clear for service and emergency vehicles. The developer will return required overlay district deliverables (architecture, lighting, landscaping, signage) for staff review and any subsequent hearings.
