A recurring theme was maintenance and staffing: commissioners said parks across neighborhoods show uneven conditions (damaged restrooms, inadequate irrigation and dark trails) and asked for an inventory of city parks, a prioritized maintenance plan, and a staffing request to be tied to the FY budget process. Several commissioners proposed creating a small parks subcommittee to work with staff on capacity and to identify projects that could be delivered through partnerships or grant contracting.
Safety and amenity items highlighted included more and more consistent lighting, ADA compliance, shaded structures for playgrounds and bleachers, and a water-quality review tied to the planned kayak-launch project. Commissioners asked parks staff to return with a written park-condition inventory, specific staffing needs (numbers and roles), and a list of grant projects, their status and expected next steps.
