Staff estimated the assessment would take roughly seven months and result in a report with recommended programs and policy steps.
Supporters said the local contribution is modest relative to potential community benefits. One commissioner noted the Blue Zones work aligns with the city’s comprehensive plan and praised prior projects supported by the foundation.
Motion to participate was moved, seconded and approved unanimously. The assessment will be funded in partnership with the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation, which will provide the remaining 85% of the cost, and staff will return with implementation details as they are developed.
The vote commits the city to an initial readiness assessment and does not, by itself, obligate the commission to follow any future program recommendations without further action.
