The Elkhorn Public Schools Board of Education on May 11 unanimously approved several routine personnel actions, adopted policy updates, authorized a $136,693.65 contract for basin conversion work and approved $113,361.65 in purchases for the high-school English adoption cycle before moving into closed session to discuss personnel.
Board President A. Parks called the regular meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and noted that the meeting was governed by the Open Meetings Act and that advance notice was published in the Omaha World-Herald on May 5.
During the Good News Report the board recognized EVVMS students Ray Athipatla, Aaryan Dhanda, Kaitlyn Swanson, Akshaj Therattil and Woody Wang for placing among the top 32 teams at the National Science Bowl. The EGMS special education team received the 2026 Nebraska ASD Network Friend of Autism Award; ESHS art students earned multiple Scholastic Art Show distinctions; and EVVMS student Vivaan Mahapatra was recognized for having a published piece originating from a 5th-grade writing assignment.
On routine business the board approved the consent agenda — which included the meeting agenda, April 13 minutes and May bills — on a motion by Board member M. Wortman, seconded by N. Rogic-Greufe. Subsequent motions carried unanimously to accept resignations effective at the end of the 2025–26 contract year for Jennifer Eidem, Janice Fitch and Erin McKenzie and to cancel the 2026–27 contract for Zoey Devaney (motion by R. Vokt; second by J. Shatel).
The board then approved appointments for the 2026–27 school year for a list of candidates moved by N. Rogic-Greufe and seconded by R. Vokt. The board also voted to adopt updates to the Rules and Procedures to Implement Policy 1006.01 and Policy 606.03 (Media Centers) following a motion by M. Wortman and a second by J. Shatel.
On facilities and procurement matters, the board approved a $136,693.65 contract with Drewes Construction to perform basin conversion work required by the City of Omaha at Woodbrook Elementary and Elkhorn North Ridge Middle School (motion by M. Wortman; second by J. Shatel). The board also approved $113,361.65 in purchases for the high-school English adoption cycle from vendors W.W. Norton and Company, BFW Publishers, Textbook Warehouse and Amazon (motion by N. Rogic-Greufe; second by J. Shatel).
Board member J. Shatel moved, and M. Wortman seconded, to enter a closed session to discuss personnel matters, citing the protection of the public interest and the prevention of needless injury to an individual's reputation; the motion passed unanimously and the board entered closed session at 7:21 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m. The next regular monthly meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the District Office Board Room at 20650 Glenn Street in Elkhorn.
