Behavioral-health and community-action groups ask county to continue funding as demand rises

John Day, executive director of Blue Valley Behavioral Health, thanked the county for past support and requested $5,000 to subsidize services; he said the agency expects to serve nearly 1,000 individuals across behavioral-health programs this fiscal year and reported a roughly 15% increase in substance-abuse service volume over recent years.
Sherry Miller, CEO of Blue Valley Community Action, presented an impact report showing Blue Valley served 968 York County clients in 2021 and asked the county for $9,996 to continue local services. Miller said emergency assistance demand — food pantry usage, rental and utility assistance and shelter placements — is increasing and that the agency has temporarily higher COVID-related funding that is expected to decline in coming months. She also described a weatherization program that currently operates on roughly $400,000 per year and may receive nearly $1 million over five years if pending allocations are finalized.
Commissioners acknowledged the rising demand and indicated the requests will be included in the county's budget deliberations.
