Board removes Historical Society levy after missing budget filing; approves senior-center agreement

County staff told commissioners that state rules prevent setting a levy for a taxing entity that has not filed an approved budget by the statutory deadlines; as a result the Historical Society will not receive levy funding for the coming year. County staff and the board said the society had reserves and could operate without the levy this year but must file a budget by next cycle to be included in future levies.
Separately, the board approved a standard agreement with the Area on Aging to support senior-center services; the county contribution recorded in the discussion was about $3,360, divided into no fewer than three payments over the fiscal year. Commissioners approved the senior-center agreement and authorized the chair to sign.
Next steps: clerk's office to amend Resolution 22-41 to remove the Historical Society levy and file the corrected levy schedule; the Historical Society was advised it must submit a budget for future levy consideration.
