For the multi-bridge package on Route 20 (work on two adjacent bridge structures and associated roadway phases), the board accepted highway staff's recommendation to award the bid to JJK of Seresco for a total contract price read into the record as $2,085,246.14. Staff noted the bid accompanied required bonding and recommended the award based on responsiveness and bid evaluation. Commissioners discussed schedule leeway and contract provisions, including liquidated damages tied to completion dates.
Staff also recommended awarding a separate culvert/roadway project to Van Kirk Brothers at roughly $373,025 with a required funding-driven completion by early June 2023 to meet grant/fiscal requirements. Commissioners approved the highway superintendent's recommendations by motion and roll call.
Highway staff described practical impacts and mitigation plans: detours will route traffic north (via Road 22 and county line connections), minimal grading will be required for the detour and the projects may proceed concurrently to shorten overall disruption.
Next steps: county staff to finalize contracts and issue notices of award; contractors will coordinate detours and phasing with county highway staff and notify adjacent residents about closures and schedules.
