Jared Stark, speaking for the university and visitors bureau, said the "Lemons Project" totals about $630,000 and that "today, we've raised over $500,000 on this project." He presented before-and-after photos and told commissioners the renovation has already allowed York to land higher-profile tournaments and larger visiting groups.
Board members discussed previous grant awards from the improvement fund, noted available lodging and convention amenities near I-80 and I-81 and emphasized the project's potential to draw hotel and restaurant business. The visitors bureau had recommended awarding $50,000 rather than the $100,000 requested; the board moved to approve $50,000 and recorded a roll-call vote in favor.
The funding will be paid in two annual installments of $25,000 each, according to the motion the board adopted.
