Stakeholder focus groups representing administrators, teachers, parents and community leaders told the Vineland Board of Education that the district's next superintendent should combine strong instructional leadership with visible community engagement, cultural competency and fiscal and operational experience.
"Integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, transparency and accountability" were emphasized by Justin Adams, VHS Tanner principal, speaking for the administrators' group. Adams said decisiveness and a willingness to make hard calls were also priorities.
Noopur Patel, an instructional coach, highlighted a "student-centered leader who puts students first in all decision-making," along with emotional intelligence and a capacity to sustain a positive work climate for staff.
Councilwoman Dr. Elizabeth Arthur, speaking on behalf of the mayor, urged a visible, engaged leader who would champion equity and the district's multilingual and multicultural strengths.
Central-office representatives, including Terri Godusky, identified fiscal expertise and operational experience — transportation, budgeting and day-to-day systems management — as necessary skills. Drs. Figgs and Gruccio emphasized instructional focus, support for teachers and principals, and a need to address teacher recruitment and retention.
Board President Holmes told attendees the search committee will use the focus-group results during interviews and that the salary range for the position is in the range of $225,000, "subject to actual qualifications, experience, and credentials, and subject to negotiations," as stated in the meeting transcript.
Representatives asked the board to prioritize visibility, collaborative communication and experience working in large district operations during the candidate review process. The board thanked focus groups and said interviews will begin in April as part of the search timeline.
The meeting transcript does not list a final timetable for candidate selection or the precise application deadline.
