The project includes two storage buildings (each to hold two 5-million-pound bins), a fan house, a septic system and a permanent truck scale and scale houses sited on specified sections of township/range in the county.
County staff said the application had been vetted through the zoning committee and recommended unanimous approval. Commissioners discussed the traffic and road impacts and noted that the permit applicant agreed to maintain and build up a last-mile quarter-mile of road at their own expense; staff also noted the applicant was receptive to voluntary restrictions such as pausing hauling in very wet conditions.
The board approved the permits in a roll-call vote. One commissioner abstained, citing a conflict of interest; the motion carried. Commissioners said the project should spread harvest traffic over a longer season and could reduce peak-period road damage compared with hauling all product in a two- to three-week window.
