Separately, the committee approved a motion to develop a K—63 April acceleration academy for students not reading at grade level, with the superintendent and curriculum staff to return with a plan. Members emphasized the need for a clear implementation plan before any funds are released. "Once it's decided, then the superintendent can put a plan together," one member said, framing the committee's role in setting policy and the superintendent's role in operationalizing it.
Next steps: finance staff will draft an allocation plan for the $1 million proposal and the curriculum office will present a design for the April acceleration academy to the curriculum committee for review and recommendation back to the full committee.
