At the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting portion, the board approved several measures affecting affordable housing and redevelopment.
The board adopted a resolution authorizing CRA funding of $500,000 to subsidize lateral sewer connections for infrastructure that supports affordable infill housing. The resolution passed on roll call with the recorded votes reported as yes by Vice Chair Herps, Commissioner Glossman, Commissioner Beasley Pitman, Commissioner Sorenson and Chair Trenal.
The CRA also adopted a policy for issuance and satisfaction of mortgages (full and partial releases) and releases of restrictive covenants in the Northwest Progressive/Flagler Heights and Central City redevelopment areas; the policy was introduced and adopted on the same roll call.
In a public-hearing action, the CRA accepted a development proposal from Central County Community Development Corporation in partnership with Elo's Impact Capital LLC and the Broward County Minority Builders Coalition and approved the nominal-sale of multiple parcels (addresses including 660 Northwest 22nd Road and adjacent lots) to support a project described in the hearing as “Legacy Village.” Several supporters spoke and Commissioner Beasley Pitman delivered an extended statement of support for the project’s community impact. The resolution approving the conveyance was introduced and passed on roll call.
Why this matters: The $500,000 lateral-sewer subsidy directly supports infill affordable housing by covering an infrastructure barrier for developers or homeowners. The land-sale approval advances a specific redevelopment project with stated community partners.
Votes and next steps: Each resolution was adopted on recorded roll calls in the CRA meeting; staff and the executive director were authorized to execute related instruments and return with conveyance documents and next steps.
