Mayor Van presented a proclamation honoring Haven Funeral Home & Crematory for 100 years of service to Skokie, recognizing four generations of family ownership and community contributions.
Mayor introduced Jim McNellis to present the first annual residential sustainability awards, honoring four households for measures including rainwater-harvesting tanks, rooftop solar, energy-efficiency retrofits on a rehabilitated two-flat, and pollinator-friendly landscaping.
The mayor then announced his nomination of Manal Desai as Village Clerk; following a roll call in which Trustee Johnson recused for a conflict of interest, the board approved the nomination and Judge Michael Weaver administered the oath. Desai thanked trustees and pledged to serve the community.
During the ceremonial portion of the meeting, five new police officers were sworn in. Police leadership introduced the officers and families; each officer repeated the oath of office and accepted certificates of appointment. The board and public applauded the new officers and the newly sworn clerk.
The mayor paused the agenda briefly to allow for reception and photos for honorees and new appointees before resuming the business meeting.
