Commission readies Golden Paintbrush awards; press release to follow and council presentation targeted for June

The Ann Arbor Public Art Commission on March 4 discussed logistics for announcing the Golden Paintbrush award winners and arranging recognition at city council.
Staff said thank-you emails have already gone to selection-panel participants and that a press release describing the winning works has been drafted and is awaiting communications-team vetting. "The press release should be coming out by end of week if not Monday at the latest," Chris said. Commissioners asked that award winners be alerted ahead of publication; staff agreed to send winners embargoed notice and then the press release.
Commissioners also discussed how to notify winners when an award recognizes a group or institutional project (for example, a University of Michigan department or Michigan Medicine). Staff said they will contact the relevant department and ask that department to select an individual recipient for notification when appropriate.
The commission tentatively targeted a city-council presentation after budget season, aiming for a June city-council meeting (staff suggested June 1, with the caveat that final scheduling depends on the council agenda calendar). Commissioners also discussed whether the commission should create a physical award and suggested linking the announcement to a web page listing past recipients.
