The chair told commissioners that she, Sarah and staff met with Chloe Crowler, the new executive director of Creative Washtenaw, to discuss using the organization's outreach channels to get the grant call to the community. "We are moving forward with our mini-grant opportunities for the city of Ann Arbor," the chair said.
Staff reported the commission currently has roughly $27,000 in spendable endowment funds and is considering grant amounts that could include $5,000 awards or one or two larger grants out of an initial round. Commissioners emphasized that the final award sizes and any fee to compensate Creative Washtenaw for outreach had not been set.
Commissioners asked for a clear rollout schedule and said they expect to use 2026 to finalize program details, with an application likely issued in the fall for projects in spring 2027. Sarah and the chair said they will draft an outline and solicit feedback from Creative Washtenaw before publicizing the call.
The commission did not take a formal vote on program rules at the March 4 meeting; staff will return with a detailed proposal, including recommended award sizes and a proposed contractor fee, for future consideration.
