Committee members reviewed final plans for the Green Wave festival on May 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., including three plant giveaways (shrubs, pollinators and grasses), donation of 20 bluebird houses from Southeast Christian Academy students, a live-oak tree planting at 11 a.m. in honor of Amelia Jones with the mayor reading a proclamation, music by After Hours from noon–3 p.m., food trucks and vendors and a GFL recycling truck on site. Members discussed using QR codes to reduce paper distribution and noted an ad will run in the Beacon to promote the festival.
The committee also heard a Tree City USA update: the new tree board has been sworn in and is reviewing town ordinances to determine whether tweaks are required before submitting an application; Kimberly is working with the board, which will meet again May 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Committee members asked subcommittees to provide flyers or QR-code content for festival tables and confirmed volunteers and town partners will staff the event. The festival is positioned as an outreach opportunity for wildlife-habitat certification information and shoreline-planting guidance.
