The Long Branch City Council adopted Ordinance O-226 on Feb. 25 to designate a handicap parking space on Sloum Place (between Fifth Avenue and Sloum Place) for motorists displaying a New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission–approved handicap placard or license plates.
The ordinance was introduced Feb. 3 and taken up at the Feb. 25 meeting. The council opened a public hearing and invited comments; no members of the public spoke on O‑226. The council then voted to adopt the ordinance on its second and final reading. The clerk recorded the roll call with Council members Mr. Vieira, Mrs. Whittis and Mr. Dangler voting yes; two members were absent and the motion passed.
During the meeting there was no recorded discussion of implementing signage or any associated enforcement or citation amounts. The ordinance’s stated purpose, as read into the record, is to provide equal access to residents on the east and west portions of Sloum Place between Fifth Avenue and Sloum Place.
The council directed the clerk to advertise the ordinance according to law following adoption.
