Oakland County committee interviews dozens for health‑network seats, forwards two recommendations to full board

The Legislative Affairs & Government Operations Committee interviewed a slate of applicants on Thursday seeking openings on the Oakland County Network (OCN) board and voted to forward two recommendations to the full board for final appointment.

The committee conducted a series of seven‑minute interviews with applicants representing clinicians, advocates and residents with lived experience. Applicants described a mix of professional and personal experience: Christine Burke said she has worked in community outreach and with disability services; Nicholas Kaidon identified himself as a nurse practitioner who returned to Oakland County to help local residents; Craig Brown described decades of experience as a finance executive and as chair of Progressive Lifestyles, and said he would resign from any position that created a conflict of interest; Jackie Sullivan, a primary‑consumer applicant, recounted years of homelessness and volunteer work helping others access benefits.

Committee members repeatedly pressed applicants on two practical points: whether they could meet the board’s heavy time commitment (three in‑person meetings per month) and whether any current employment or board roles would create a disqualifying conflict. Several applicants said they had flexible schedules or supportive employers, and a handful volunteered to step down from other posts if necessary.

After deliberation the committee voted to recommend a candidate to fill the primary‑consumer seat and to recommend Craig Brown for the general‑public position; both recommendations will be considered by the full board for final appointment. The committee’s deliberations emphasized the desire to balance lived experience, clinical knowledge and financial oversight on the board.

Selected comments during interviews included: “I conduct myself with integrity at all times,” said Christine Burke when asked about potential conflicts; Nicholas Kaidon said his motivation was simple: “I just want to help people like my mommy does,” describing a lifetime commitment to caring professions; and Craig Brown told the committee that, to avoid a conflict, he would step down from an outside board post if required.

The committee recessed deliberations and will refer the two recommended nominees to the full board for confirmation. No other formal policy decisions were made during the session.
