City engineer Don told the council that, based on unit prices from the current contract, “we can get all that work done for under $140,000.” Council voted to approve the change order.
Discussion from council and staff covered the sidewalk’s subtle meandering alignment — attributed to intersection geometry, tree preservation and safety-driven attempts to shorten crossing widths — and noted some color variation where newer pours had cured in different weather conditions. Staff said they can pursue alternatives if color or finish is unacceptable, but recommended allowing time for curing to reduce perceived differences.
Council also discussed drive aprons: staff confirmed existing asphalt drive aprons in the project area will be replaced with concrete where work touches the street, and that homeowners remain responsible for future apron replacement after the city installs new concrete aprons.
Residents in attendance praised the sidewalk work overall, and one resident asked about additional traffic warning measures for the new Gates Mills trail; staff said they would consider signage and speed feedback placement in coordination with the trail opening.
