Franklin County adopts roundabout projects, speed‑limit referrals and a property transfer to American Electric Power

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners moved forward on several transportation and right‑of‑way items presented by the county engineer’s office, adopting resolutions to authorize project planning, property compensation and speed‑limit referrals.
County engineer staff, represented by Nick Sulus, told the board that the actions were routine steps in planned safety and infrastructure improvements. The board adopted Resolution 52425 to authorize plans for replacing the signalized intersection at Haven's Corners Road and Wagner Road with a modern roundabout in Jefferson Township, and Resolution 52625 to declare necessary the Walnut Street and Bevelheimer Road roundabout project in Plane Township (New Albany collaboration).
The board also adopted Resolution 52525 to vacate a portion of Woodland Avenue and transfer the county’s underlying interest to the Ohio Power Company (doing business as American Electric Power); staff said Columbus had already extinguished its roadway interest and no objections were filed. The board approved Resolution 52825, establishing $61,465 in compensation for 26 property owners affected by Cook Road improvements in Clinton Township and the city of Columbus; staff described the project scope (curb, gutter, sidewalks, shared‑use path, storm sewer improvements and lighting).
Separate resolutions (52925 and 53025) forwarded recommendations from county speed‑limit studies to the Ohio Department of Transportation for final action. The studies concluded a reduction from 55 mph to 45 mph was appropriate on segments of Han Road (Jackson Township) and Hayden Run Road (Washington Township); commissioners voted to send those findings to ODOT for final determination.
Sulus characterized many of the items as the next procedural steps in the engineers' processes: "This resolution is the second step in the process that will authorize the engineers's office to prepare plans as necessary for the construction of this project," he said when presenting the Haven's Corners Road item. All of the engineer‑related resolutions were adopted by recorded vote during the meeting.
