Franklin County approves $2.8 million home‑repair vendor expansion to help seniors age in place

County staff said the contract pool will provide plumbing, electrical, heating, pest control and safety modifications to help older residents remain safely in their homes. The board authorized a total not‑to‑exceed amount of $2,800,000 for services between July 30, 2025 and July 31, 2026.
Joy Bib, Deputy County Administrator for Health and Human Services, described the program’s direct impact: she recounted meeting a wheelchair‑bound resident who ‘‘normally cannot get out of the house because I only have steps’’ and called home repairs a tangible way to restore mobility and independence. Office on Aging staff and commissioners emphasized that repairs can prevent costly crises and support seniors’ ability to manage prescriptions, medical appointments and daily needs.
Commissioners said they view the program as a budget priority during the upcoming fall budget cycle and noted the program’s secondary economic benefit of supporting small businesses that perform repairs.
Action taken: the board moved, seconded and adopted Resolution 61525 during the July 29 general session; commissioners recorded affirmative votes and the measure passed.
