School committee approves 2026'027 calendar, financial warrants and several administrative items

The Leominster School Committee voted on and approved a slate of administrative and financial items at its March 2, 2026 meeting, including the 2026'027 school calendar, warrant acceptance, budget transfers, gifts and field trips.
After confirming that religious holidays and the graduation date were accounted for, the committee approved the 2026'027 school calendar; the motion carried without objection. Committee members said administrators and the district's LEA partner had reviewed the calendar.
The committee then heard finance updates and read multiple warrant numbers for the general fund and grants/revolving accounts. Members voted to accept the warrants and approved a requested transfer of $800,000 from general fund salaries to general fund expenses, citing utility and heating costs that came in higher than expected. The transfer vote was taken and recorded as unanimous on the floor; an additional intra-general-fund transfer of $925,000 between expense codes was presented as informational.
Other approved actions included disposal of obsolete equipment (including a Zamboni), acceptance of a donation check for $37,569 from Ludas Technology of Holland, Missouri, and approval of a middle-school field trip to Washington, D.C. Minutes were approved unanimously and subcommittee and finance items were discussed in committee reports.
During new business members also directed staff to address a public comment about inconsistent posting of agendas and minutes to city and school websites and to place the item on next month's agenda so materials are uniformly accessible. A member asked that the committee request information on a city traffic-study grant to assess crossing-guard coverage and traffic safety near Johnny Appleseed.
Motions and votes recorded during the meeting were procedural and administrative; the committee did not adopt new policy or change district governance in this session.
