Outgoing superintendent delivers farewell as new superintendent outlines hiring plan

Outgoing Superintendent Orgeron told the Terrebonne Parish School Board on March 3 that serving the district has been “an honor of a lifetime,” and reflected on district projects completed during his tenure. “We had over in four years 250 BFT recommendations,” he said, describing the superintendent role as having evolved into project management and thanking staff and board members for their support.
Board members took turns praising Orgeron's leadership. Michael Lagarde said Orgeron's work was “for the kids in Terrebonne Parish,” and Dr. Bud Cloutier thanked him for setting an example of caring leadership. Several board members noted long working relationships and wished him well.
New Superintendent Michael Butler used the meeting to present the district's organizational chart and describe next steps for leadership hires. Butler said the district will advertise “beginning tomorrow” for key executive positions, including an assistant superintendent and a chief operations officer, with a one-week advertisement period followed by interviews. “The hope is that we are able to get an assistant superintendent as well as a chief operation[s] officer in place so that we can begin our planning,” Butler said.
Board members pressed for timing and reporting lines during the discussion. Butler confirmed the posted instructional coaching positions (math and ELA coach roles at elementary, middle and high levels) will fall under the academics pillar of the chart and that the chief of staff will supervise human resources functions. He also introduced members of his family to the board and noted his prior experience in child welfare and statewide children's work.
The meeting closed the leadership items with board members welcoming Butler and thanking Orgeron. The board did not take a formal vote related to the organizational chart at this meeting.
