Katie, representing the Walton County Library, told the council the board member’s term limit requires the seat to “sit out for at least a year” after two consecutive terms and described two typical approaches: a city appointment or a county‑run application process that the board of county commissioners then approves. She said the library advisory board meets quarterly — “on the second Tuesday of the month in January, April, July, and October at 4:00 p.m. at the Walton Deaniac Library” — and asked the council to ensure any appointee can meet those dates.
Council members said they wanted local input on any appointment and discussed options to advertise on the city website so the city could review applicants before the county’s Dec. 18 meeting. City staff confirmed the county’s agenda deadline would allow time for a two‑week advertising window and agreed to follow up with county administration so a nomination could be considered at the county commission’s Dec. 18 meeting if the council chose to pursue that route.
Staff said they would return to the council with a recommended process and timeline so the council could provide input on a candidate if the county’s procedure required it. No final appointment was made during the meeting.
