Mayor Brian Smith told the Waupaca City Planning Commission that the City Council took action at a meeting on March 3 that resulted in the termination of City Administrator Josh Finch effective the morning of March 4.
Smith said he has appointed Justin Barren, who serves as the city’s public works director, to be interim city administrator. Barren will continue in his public works role while serving in the interim administrator position. The mayor said a press release was issued announcing the change.
Smith made the announcement to inform the planning commission and members of the public watching the meeting; he did not describe reasons for the termination or outline next steps for recruiting a permanent replacement. There was no council vote or further staff direction recorded during the planning commission meeting.
The commission then moved to adjourn. The mayor noted the timing will mean added responsibilities for Barren in the near term.
