Vacaville planners outline Unity Meadows master plan, Sierra Vista construction timeline and city solar installations

Park planner Nemo updated the Parks & Recreation Commission on March 4 about near‑term park projects and a citywide solar effort affecting park sites.

Unity Meadows is in the master‑plan phase: staff completed online outreach and a consultant is preparing concepts for a community meeting; a preferred master plan is expected to come to the commission for input and the commission may consider approval by this summer.

Sierra Vista Park is under construction and, according to staff, rough grading and hardscape work (concrete) are complete. Nemo said site amenities — shade structures, picnic tables and play equipment — remain to be installed and staff anticipates opening the park in mid to late summer, followed by an establishment period and then council acceptance.

Separately, three park sites (McBride, Ulatis and Three Oaks) have received solar panel installations that are interconnected to adjacent facilities and are undergoing inspection. Nemo told the commission that project managers project energy savings “in the tens of millions” over the roughly 25‑year equipment life span; he clarified that savings are calculated citywide rather than per site and that site‑specific savings were not provided at the meeting.

Commissioners asked about site safety (tree wells and old concrete barriers under solar panels) and EV charging maintenance; staff agreed to refer specific maintenance or safety follow‑ups to Public Works.

The commission received the updates for information; staff will return with exhibits or contract details as needed for future decisions.
