Staff and California Fish and Wildlife reported heavy participation and long lines, and Fish and Wildlife has agreed to bring more fish and five times the gear the next time the event runs.
Melody said the event exceeded expectations: organizers had planned for the low hundreds but instead saw approximately 2,000 attendees. Staff noted logistical pinch points that will be addressed before a repeat — adding more porta‑potties near the lake, arranging pre‑registration to reduce signing‑in delays, and securing additional equipment and volunteer support.
Fish and Wildlife representatives, according to staff, offered to increase fish stocking and bring more gear; a private sponsor has already offered to help with bait and other supplies. The recreation team said staff will evaluate whether Kids Fishing Day becomes a recurring program and will report back with planning recommendations.
The commission acknowledged the event's popularity and noted the need to plan for larger crowds if the event is repeated.
