Warren accepts state and federal grants to fund Point Park and Indian Hollow floodway work

Mayor Wartman told the Warren City Council that the city recently received grant awards intended to fund local park and flood-control work.
Wartman said Senator Federmans office announced a federal grant to invest in Point Park refurbishment and thanked staff for preparing the application and shepherding the award through the process. He described the park as the point where the Allegany and the Connewango (transcript spelled differently) meet and said the grant will support improvements there.
Council later heard from Mr. Holtz about a $300,000 award from the Pennsylvania small water and sewer program for rehabilitation of the Indian Hollow floodway. Holtz said the city owns and operates the floodway and that sections of the concrete walls have begun to tip; the award will fund necessary wall repairs. "We can now repair the walls without the general fund," Holtz said.
Councilors thanked staff and the administration for securing competitive grants and noted that the awards reduce demand on general funds. No formal additional appropriations were made at the meeting; staff said they will return with implementation details as projects proceed.
