Ocean View School District board swears in trustees, elects Patricia Singer president and reorganizes subcommittees

The Ocean View School District Board of Trustees on Dec. 17, 2024 ceremonially administered oaths of office to trustees and completed its annual reorganization, electing Patricia Singer as board president, Jack Saers as vice president and Gina Clayton Tarvin as clerk.
Superintendent Dr. Julian Hofer administered the oath to Gina Clayton Tarvin and Carrie Gorsage. After nominations and roll-call votes, the board approved the officer slate by voice and roll-call votes; the president nomination carried 5–0, and the vice president and clerk nominations were approved unanimously.
Board President Singer announced a series of changes to subcommittees. The board dissolved several groups whose task‑force work was complete (Surplus Property/7‑Eleven, Declining Enrollment and District Advertising) and reestablished a Wintersburg subcommittee for a one‑year term (January–December 2025) to advise on negotiations and options for the Wintersburg property. The board also created a Board Policy Review subcommittee to update district policies to align with current law and a Trustee Area‑Based Election subcommittee to begin work on defining trustee areas ahead of elections starting in November 2026. Clerk Gina Clayton Tarvin and President Singer were named to multiple subcommittees; specific appointees were announced at the meeting.
Trustees also approved the board’s 2025 meeting calendar and completed the customary adoption of "adopted" school site assignments for trustee engagement visits.
The reorganization items were procedural and approved without extended debate. The meeting agenda and minutes from prior meetings were also adopted as part of the opening business. The board recessed briefly midmeeting for a community celebration honoring retiring trustee Norm Westwell and Golden View Elementary’s Golden Bell award before returning to finish organizational business.
The board will reconvene and continue its work in January, with subcommittee work—particularly on Wintersburg and trustee area elections—scheduled to report back during 2025.
