Students showcase robotics and library programs; trustees praise literacy and STEM engagement

Starview Principal Jean Bentley described Project Lead The Way and a VEX robotics program that serves third through fifth graders; staff noted recent competition participation (Jan. 11 VEX IQ in Irvine) and student awards. "Engineering in elementary school benefits our students through enhanced problem solving, increased creativity and innovation," Bentley said, summarizing the goals of early engineering exposure.
Marine View Principal Sarah Shley and librarian Denise Plank introduced student representatives who described the "Anchors" program — a lunch‑period library club with trivia, games and student leadership roles designed to boost reading engagement. Students said the library is "packed" during lunch and credited the librarian with creating an inviting environment.
Trustees and staff thanked students and noted the value of programs that get children into hands‑on STEM and away from screens and that create connections across the school day. The board invited photo opportunities and accepted student bookmarks and materials shared at the meeting.
