Commission presents historic-place plaques to two Woodlawn homeowners

At its March 3 meeting, the O'Fallon Historic Preservation Commission presented historic-place plaques to two homeowners on Woodlawn.
The commission presented a plaque to the owner of 411 Woodlawn. The recipient said he grew up in O'Fallon and thanked the commission: "Thank you very much I appreciate it. I love the home and I love the neighborhood." The plaque text recognizes the property as listed in the O'Fallon Register of Historic Places.
The commission also presented a plaque to Erica and John Davis at 419 Woodlawn. Erica accepted the plaque "on behalf of Helen, Alberta, Pauline and Paul Roper, who built this home and all the other historic homes in the city." She added, "We're simply caretakers of the home at this point, but we hope it lasts another 116 years, and we're very grateful for their contribution to the city." The mayor joined the ceremony to congratulate the homeowners.
The presentations were brief and ceremonial; the commission will continue to process historic-designation nominations and maintain its register and plaque program.
