The presenter said the district will issue a request for proposals for a new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone system, a move prompted by repeated technical problems with the current provider.
Presenter said some of the symptoms include delayed technical support and errors that have caused 911 calls to route from incorrect locations. "We are able to make the 911 calls, there's just a lot of glitches and errors in the system," the presenter said, summarizing the safety concern that prompted the RFP.
Joe Carlile, the director of information and technology (identified in the update), will lead the RFP process. The presenter said the tentative schedule is to post the RFP, receive bids and present them for approval at the June board meeting, with potential phone replacement as early as this summer.
No vendor names or budget figures were included in the update; the presenter said the district will follow the competitive-bid process and bring proposals back to the board for formal action.
