Decatur County redevelopment commission OKs addendum to fund school equipment

Don Schilling, speaking for the Decatur County Redevelopment Commission, told the board March 4 the commission is proposing a fifth addendum to its economic development plan that would allow the commission to provide funding to Greensburg and Decatur County schools for educational needs such as computers and other equipment.
Schilling said past addendums covered specific projects; the new addendum is broader and would let the commission consider additional projects without reopening the entire plan. Board members asked procedural questions about whether only one reading would be required; staff confirmed the proposed action would follow the usual approval steps.
After brief public comment and questions, a motion to approve the addendum was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The chair noted the addendum language in the packet, which states the commission may “assist the schools in funding education including computers and other equipment needed.”
Staff and the commission will follow the county’s formal process to finalize and implement the addendum.
