Mount Clemens commissioners unanimously appoint Eric Rick to city commission

At a regular meeting of the Mount Clemens City Commission, commissioners selected Eric Rick to fill a vacant seat, with the city clerk reading a unanimous 5-0 ballot in his favor.

The commission chair outlined the appointment process before voting, saying commissioners had interviewed four candidates and would submit private ballots that the city clerk would tally. The clerk read the results aloud: "Eric Rick has five votes and Eric Rick is the winner," after which the presiding official welcomed Rick to the commission and noted the vote was unanimous.

Rick, who gave his address as 1689 Hampton, Mount Clemens, Michigan, addressed the commission during the public-comment portion, saying, "First, I'd like to thank the commission for your trust. I will do my best to live up to it," and added he would keep his remarks brief. The clerk and presiding official discussed logistics for the oath of office; the clerk said she would swear in Mr. Rick after the meeting so he would be ready for the March 6 commission meeting.

Commissioners offered brief congratulations. One commissioner said the decision reflected a difficult but fair deliberation process and encouraged other residents to run in upcoming elections; another expressed thanks to the other candidates. Earlier in the meeting Mayor Crop moved to adopt the agenda "as presented," and that motion was approved in roll call.

The meeting ended after a motion to adjourn carried in favor. The appointment was recorded by ballot and announced by the city clerk; the commission did not record individual ballots by voter.
