Mount Clemens recognizes Mome Foster Closet for charitable gaming license as group prepares move to larger facility

The Mount Clemens City Commission on March 20 adopted a resolution recognizing Mome Foster Closet as a nonprofit organization to support its application for a state charitable gaming license that would permit fundraising raffles.
Mr. Shipman explained that state law requires local government recognition by resolution as part of the charitable gaming license application process and noted the Foster Closet is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3).
Fred Hubner, a board member and licensed foster/adoptive parent, described the group's work since 2014 at the Family Resource Center and said the organization is relocating as its current space is inadequate. "We currently have 5,000 ft where we're at... this new place is 17,750 ft," Hubner said, adding that the larger facility should allow the group to stop turning donations away and to expand services for foster, kinship and adopted children, as well as youth in transition ages 18–24.
The commission approved the resolution by roll call vote.
