Mount Clemens approves Oasis social district boundary and hours changes

The Mount Clemens City Commission approved a resolution to update the Oasis social district, streamlining operating hours and expanding the district boundaries to include city parking lots and extend to the east side of North Main Street.
City Manager Mr Shipman said the Oasis has operated since April 2021 and the proposed changes aim to bolster participating businesses by leveraging special events; the Downtown Development Authority reviewed the changes on April 5 and voted unanimously to recommend adoption. The proposal would shift the Oasis from Thursday–Sunday operations to daily operations from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Commissioners questioned whether parking-lot inclusion could be conditional only during special events. Mr Tingley (DDA) and staff said state rules governing social-district boundary submissions do not allow fluctuating or event-only boundaries, so the boundaries must be stated consistently in the submission. Staff noted there have been few police incidents directly related to the Oasis.
The commission voted to adopt the resolution by roll call.
