City manager lists holiday events, election dates; new housing commission director introduces herself

City Manager Barret Shipman used the Oct. 3 meeting to deliver routine city updates and event notices, and to remind residents about upcoming election and civic deadlines.
Shipman announced a historic homes Christmas tour planned for Dec. 2, additional administrative hearing dates in 2024, the end of curbside compost pickup, and the Mount Clemens Local Treasure award nomination deadline of Dec. 15. The city clerk’s office will be open Nov. 4 to assist voters with absentee ballots and voter registration; the city election will be held Nov. 7 with polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Shipman also highlighted the annual Tinsel Tour and a number of family-oriented downtown events scheduled in October and December.
During the second public participation period, Tamaa Suon introduced herself as the new executive director of the Mount Clemens Housing Commission, saying she wanted to build relationships and work with the commission. Local resident Dave Gagnan announced a Christmas concert by the Romanian group Amadas at the Emerald Theatre on Dec. 22 and encouraged the public to check the group online for more information.
Commissioners closed the meeting with brief comments inviting volunteers for the Mount Clemens Santa Parade and promoting community Halloween events. The meeting adjourned after a final motion.
