Board signs agreements to continue early‑college and dual‑credit pathways with Southern partner

The Wyoming County Board of Education approved course and standards alignments for the district's early college academy and authorized a memorandum of understanding to continue the partnership with Southern Community Technical College.

Kahosi Mitchell presented standards alignments for CS 102 (Early College Academy), accounting courses AC 111 and AC 112, and economics courses EC241 and EC242, describing how Southern's course goals match district requirements. Mitchell recommended each alignment be considered individually; the board moved, seconded and approved each alignment by voice vote.

The board also reviewed and approved a memorandum of understanding that clarifies how the district and Southern will collaborate on early college pathways. The presenter said the partnership has worked well, noting that some student records remain protected under college privacy rules but that open lines of communication have helped solve issues.

Separately, the board approved a dual-credit (Level Up) agreement covering identified pathways; staff noted the agreement will allow an incoming class of juniors to receive a general studies certificate and will enable expanded Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment opportunities. The superintendent and presenters said they will continue to refine pathways and support teacher training to sustain the program.
