The Bayonne Board of Education on Sept. 17 ratified a new contract with the Bayonne Education Association, a union leader said, and trustees praised negotiators for settling the deal well in advance of the agreement's start date.
Jean Woods, identified in the meeting as president of the BEA negotiations committee, told the board: "On behalf of the Bayon Education Association negotiations committee and our members, we'd like to say thank you for ratifying the contract tonight." He said the parties settled nearly a year ahead of schedule and that the agreement includes changes intended to attract and retain educators.
A board member who spoke after Woods called the settlement "huge" and said it represented a notable improvement benefiting both teachers and the district. The board recorded routine approvals earlier on the agenda, including the superintendent's and business administrator's reports.
The union's public remarks at the meeting served as the explicit acknowledgment that the contract ratification had occurred; the meeting transcript does not include a separate roll-call vote text that identifies the motion or tally specifically for the contract ratification itself. Trustees did record roll-call votes to approve other listed agenda items during the meeting.
The board adjourned after brief remarks of congratulations to the negotiation team. The meeting packet and future minutes are the authoritative source for the full contract text, effective dates and formal vote records.
